ann's activities

Howth is blessed with a variety of fine restaurants and pubs/bars to suit all tastes. All are within easy walking distance of Ann's.

Restaurants

Fans of genuine mexican food will find the relaxed atmosphere and authentic recipes at El Paso Restaurant (Harbour Road) a real delight.

If its local seafood you're after the recently refurbished Old King Sitric (next door to Ann's) overlooking the harbour is recommended while Aqua ideally situated in West Pier is also worth a visit.

Good food-in a good pub-is hard to come by but for value and quality the extensive menu and fine fare served at Krugers/The Top House (opposite Howth Church) is not to be missed-restaurant quality at pub prices. You won't leave hungry.

For pasta and pizza lovers there's Casa Pasta located on Harbour Road and Cibo on the main street. The Big Blue (and Little Blue downstairs!), beautifully situated overlooking the 12th century St. Mary's church, also has excellent steaks and a wide menu. Ella is a newly opened wine bar offering a limited but tasty menu.

Oh yeah, if you missed a table at any of the above you can catch a bite at any of Howth's takeaways and bring it back to Ann's. There's the Dragon Boat and Kim's Oriental for chinese cuisine at good prices. Café Caira (traditional italian chipper) and Beshoff's (fresh fish&chips) are excellent.

Pubs/Bars

Ireland is famous for its genuine pubs with their unique atmosphere and craic. Howth's pubs can certainly claim to have this in abundance.Pubs are open from 10.30 in the morning to 11.30 at night with late opening Friday and Saturday til 12.30.

The best way to explore the local hostelries is to take a stroll through the village and see for yourself. Drop in for a pint o' the blackstuff and a chat. Locals are always willing to share their knowledge and to help out strangers from near and far. Just ask. Look out for information about music nights and events posted up or just ask the bartender.

For the traditional Irish music fan The Lighthouse and The Cock Tavern all have sessiúns at no charge.
There are pool tables in many of the pubs (The Top House, The Summit Inn, The Cock Tavern).
For music, events and good food Krugers/The Top House is recommended while for that outdoor pint The Summit Inn, with its majestic views up the northern coast, is a must.
